I never set out to create “just” another photography studio. I studied with the best portrait photographers in the industry, and for several years, treated my craft as a hobby. But when the interest in my work grew, I realized that what I can offer is more than just documentation of clients' lives; it is an experience to remember.
I wanted to create an environment where people feel cared for, confident, and truly themselves in front of the camera.
So much of life moves quickly now. We document everything, yet preserve very little. Images live on our phones, disappear into feeds, and are forgotten almost as quickly as they are taken. I believe portraits deserve more than that.
At Elena Dilai Photography in Webster, NY, I create portraits with intention — the kind that stop you when you walk past them years later. The kind your children will fight over someday. The kind that remind you who you were in this season of life.
I work with women, couples, and families who value beauty, legacy, and experience. Most of my clients come to me saying the same thing: “I’m not photogenic.” What they really mean is that they have never been photographed in a way that made them feel comfortable in front of a camera; they have never been guided in posing, and perhaps were rushed through a session.
That’s why clients in Rochester, NY and surrounding areas choose to be photographed by me.
Every detail of the experience is carefully considered — from styling and wardrobe guidance to lighting, posing, and the final artwork that will live in your home. My goal is never to make you look like someone else. It is to show you at your very best!
The portraits we create together are not meant to live inside a digital folder or die in a "cloud". They are designed to become part of your home and part of your family’s story. Imagine walking by the wall art that shows your family's energy and connection; imagine looking through albums or folio sets, reflecting on the experience and beauty. This gives our time together a much deeper meaning.
Luxury, to me, is not about excess. It’s about care and experience. It’s about craftsmanship. It’s about creating something meaningful enough to last.
That is what I want every client to feel when they walk into my studio, and remember every time they look at their portraits afterward.
I am looking forward to meeting you, and I would love to create something meaningful for you!
Warmly,
Elena

Not at all. Before your session, we will meet you in person and discuss the desired outcome. You will be asked to send us casual photos of all the people we will photograph with you. We will prepare the flow of poses appropriate for you specifically.
Our clients are not professional models and often arrive nervous about being photographed. We guide you through every pose and expression step-by-step using flattering lighting and natural direction designed specifically for your body type, comfort level, and personality.
Luxury fabrics such as silk, satin, and chiffon, along with rich textures like lace, tulle, velvet, linen, and fine knits, add depth, softness, and sophistication to portraits. Coordinated tones, subtle layering, and elegant simplicity tend to create the most timeless and polished results. Our goal is to make the entire process effortless and enjoyable while ensuring everyone looks and feels their very best.
We help every client select clothing that photographs beautifully and complements the finished artwork in both style and tone. After booking, you will receive personalized wardrobe guidance tailored to your vision, your home, and the overall feel you want your portraits to have.
As part of the process, we invite you to send us photos of your clothing options so we can thoughtfully guide you toward the most flattering and cohesive selections for your session. Whether your style is refined and elegant or relaxed and casual, we help curate looks that feel authentic to you while photographing beautifully on camera.

WXXI Connections with Evan Dawson featuring Elena Dilai
Ukrainian artists create beauty amid tragedy
"When war touches an artist’s life directly, how does it change what feels necessary to say or impossible to ignore?" That's a question local Ukrainian-born photographer Elena Dilai asked herself as she watched Russia's war tear her native country apart. She says she and her fellow Ukrainian artists didn't set out to make "war art," but as the fighting touched their families, their language, and their sense of home, they felt compelled to respond creatively. This hour, we sit down with Dilai and two of her colleagues to discuss how artists process war, the conflicting emotions that can come with creating beauty out of catastrophe, and what audiences can learn from art that's rooted in private emotion.
