- When was the last time you were photographed professionally?
A new headshot last year, another headshot a few years ago, a portrait with my kids at church, and my wedding.
- Why did you decide to participate in this project?
Because I turned 60! I feel good about myself, and I think I am pretty Fabulous! This was a splurge on myself!
- What were your initial thoughts and emotions about being photographed at this stage of your life?
A little nervous but mostly excited! Having a headshot done is a very different experience than being photographed for the 40+ and Fabulous! project.
- Can you describe your experience during the photoshoot?
Nervous at first, but guidance was very helpful and made me feel very comfortable. I had a lot of fun that day – I felt pampered and very special. I did feel tired at the end, but I was warned about that
- What was your reaction when you saw the final photos?
Wow! That’s me! Some photos looked more like me than others, but they were amazing!
- Did the photoshoot change the way you see yourself? If so, how?
In a way, yes – I felt so glamorous that day! I try to make an effort in my appearance and try to always look my best, but that day, I felt that I really looked awesome!
- How has this experience impacted your self-perception and confidence?
I tend to be relatively confident; it took me years to get to this point, so I can’t say the experience made me more confident, but it was magical that day! I had so much fun on the day of the photoshoot; I still have a buzz inside!
- What wisdom would you like to share with young women today?
Believe in yourself – you are amazing, and you can do anything you put your mind to. Stay off social media. Remember – every bump you come across will just make you stronger.
- If you could talk to your younger self, what would you say?
Don’t date guys who don’t deserve you.
- What are the best things about aging, in your opinion?
The confidence to be who I am, to stand up for myself and for others.
- How do you embrace the changes that come with getting older?
Well, I am on the right side of the grass – I like my life and the people in it, I love what I do and the people who surround me. Do I wish that little things that come with age were not there? Sure! Like arthritis in my knees or not sleeping through the night, I can do without them.
- What are some accomplishments or milestones you’re proud of at this stage in your life?
I am incredibly proud to have served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Webster Chamber of Commerce and to have been recognized as Person of the Year by the Chamber. These honors reflect years of dedication to my community. I also take great pride in the values I’ve inherited from my father and the person I’ve become because of him. But above all, my greatest pride lies in my children—watching them grow, find their own paths, and become incredible individuals is the most rewarding accomplishment of all.
- Who or what inspires you at this stage of your life?
My Mother – she is 86 years old and she is amazing! She worked hard her whole life along with my dad. She gave us all she could and instilled in us the right morals and values. She gave us a beautiful home – it was great to grow up in. She still lives her life – going to the gym, meeting friends, going out. I want to be her one day.
- Are there any role models or figures who have influenced your outlook on aging?
Just my mom. I don’t care what celebrities say or do, but the women in my life – like my mom and her friend Judith - who are fun, kind, and beautiful, who live their lives as examples, do inspire me.
- Do you have a life motto that you live by?
Be Kind! If you are kind to people, it helps everyone feel better and makes the world a better place. It is important to give someone a compliment or smile at them; they just might need it.
- What are your aspirations and goals for the future?
I want to see grandchildren one day. My daughters are still young, so it will not be any time soon. For now, I just want to enjoy life and spend time with my friends and family.
- How do you plan to continue celebrating your age and experiences?
Through the jobs I do and people I love. One foot in front of the other.
